even with sandbag sightblockers on the point a sniper could snipe people coming in across the map in the corner openings

point is a great start but wide open with not a lot of variation in geometry, look at valve maps for inspiration!

generally, the map seems rather large for the players, using static props set to the 'hwm' models will add useful size(1/2)
